Tucked into the rural countryside of Ontario’s Prince Edward County is Fifth Town Artisan Cheese, an award winning artisinal dairy mixed into several up and coming wineries. Lauren Winfield, Associate Photo Editor at Fortune Magazine, asked if I’d be interested in profiling their CEO, Petra Cooper, for their front of the book section featuring ‘Second Acts’. The section features CEO’s who have switched careers in a big way (Petra used to be President of McGraw-Hill Ryerson Higher Education).
We started at her HQ and cheese caves, profiling the amazing array of goat cheeses that they produce. They let nature ‘seal’ the cheeses (hence the funky fuzz), and keep a constant and devoted watch over their progress.

We then set-up for a portrait where she gets all her goats milk from, at a local farm just down the road. Now, I have no real experience with goats, and was very surprised that when I entered into the goat barn, they all turned their heads silently and became immediately focused on my assistant and I. It was like walking into a public school auditorium. I really wasn’t prepared for their attentiveness and curiosity, as we had to be constantly aware of one special goat and her pal that wanted to sample our laces, laptop, Pro Big, stands, cables, etc:
For the portrait (above, top), Petra was a great sport and endured the constant attention of her lovable goats as we snapped away.

Hey Finn~
How are you? I’ve read about you/your work on Heather Morton’s blog, and she mentioned your skill for blogging during a recent talk in Vancouver and that we should all check you out. So this is me, checking out your blog.
I like these goat shots. I have an affinity for goats, I think they’re kinda cute, despite their desire to eat everything as you say.
Looking forward to seeing your future posts&work.
