Sprawling outside the city of Oshawa (about an hours drive East of Toronto), the General Motors Autoplex, the largest of its kind in North America, employs around 10,000 people.
Next Spring, it is due to close.
The tanking US economy, the slump in sales of gas guzzling cars, vans and trucks, as well as high gas prices, have led to the Autoplex's demise.
