He now goes shoeless for a week or so every year to raise awareness of people living in poverty. Here's how the portrait was laid-out in the magazine: I love seeing my portraits used in such a strong, graphic layout. Makes me fall in love with mag's all over again. 08.17.10Toronto’s Urban Farming featured in French GlamourBack in May, I had the extreme pleasure of shooting for French Glamour magazine and their lovely editor Myriam Weil. What made this shoot so interesting is that the piece we shot concentrated on the urban farming that is happening throughout Toronto, from the perspective of a progressive French beauty magazine. You come up with an ingenious idea of integrating them into the very product they've become famous for. Smart Technologies produce interactive whiteboards, which are becoming increasingly popular in elementary school rooms. As a independent, semi-nomadic people, the Massai have never embraced religion or education, let alone world travel, so it was a very special treat to meet Teriano. 06.02.10Portrait of John Jones for Esquire Magazine.Back in April, I got a call from Michael Norseng, Photo Director at Esquire, asking if I'd be interested in shooting a piece for their upcoming "How to Be a Man" issue, profiling a grief counselor nicknamed Dr. Death. 05.27.10Hockeyland for The Walrus MagazineIdeally, this image for the Walrus magazine feature by David MacFarlane would have been shot on location. The article is about the writer attending hockey games in America’s sunbelt, and realizes the consequences of the NHL’s expansion south. I would like to have attended the games with the writer, or at least retrace some of his steps, stalking the sunbelt for his array of visual metaphors and observations (the piece is so well written and honest to the core). 05.20.10Roots of Empathy for Time MagazineI had the pleasure of shooting for Time Magazine a few weeks back, documenting a ground breaking program called Roots of Empathy, which is based here in Canada. From their website, Roots of Empathy is: "an evidence-based classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among schoolchildren by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy." It's an incredible program that utilizes a neighborhood infant and their parent, who visit a classroom every three weeks over a school year with the aid of a Roots of Empathy Instructor. 05.13.10Design Lines MagazineHitting your local, happening, and well designed Toronto hot spot right now is the summer issue of Designlines: "Toronto's ultimate guide to design". Designlines is a much loved, local publication, and I was thrilled to be the issue's photographer. We shot the issue in a week, traversing across the city, all the while profiling some fun and inspiring spaces & people of this fine city. 04.22.10University Affairs Magazine coverThe very talented design team at Underline Studio called a few weeks back asking if they could pour over my contact sheets from my Arctic trips, in hopes of finding a landscape shot for an upcoming cover of University Affairs magazine. To my surprise, they found a shot that I had completely looked over, and I'm thrilled with the result. It's of the rolling tundra outside Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, with Mount Pelly in the background.

04.13.10The $45 Manhattan for Toronto Life MagazineBarchef, on Toronto's Queen Street West, serves a $45 manhattan, which is a mix of whisky, vanilla cognac and bitters that arrives in a bell jar filled with hickory smoke. I didn't get to sample it, as the drink in the photo was an imitation of the real one. I did, however, smell like an expensive camp fire when I got home, which was nice.
